About us
Makutra Pastry & Coffee is an artisan pastry shop and specialty coffee café at ul. Słowiańska 4 in Kraków (Kleparz, a 10-minute walk north of the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), next to the Stary Kleparz market). A makutra is the ribbed earthenware bowl Polish families have used for generations to grind poppy seeds and beat creams, and that is who we are: Galician baking tradition, French precision and modern coffee culture.
No shortcuts
Our kitchen has fixed rules: real butter, no margarine, no ready-made mixes. The puff pastry for our napoleonka is laminated over three days, because that is the only way to get layers you can hear when you bite. Cream, eggs and flour come from suppliers we know, the vanilla is real, and cheesecakes are baked slowly at a low temperature.
What we bake
We specialise in artisan versions of the classics : napoleonka with real vanilla, choux buns with seasonal creams, Paris-Brest, New York cheesecake and miodownik (honey cake), alongside bakes that are hard to find in Kraków, such as Breton kouign-amann. We also make cakes to order. We bake in small batches every morning, which is why today’s menu can differ from yesterday’s.
Coffee taken seriously
Good pastry deserves good coffee: espresso and filter brews from specialty roasters, and matcha if you prefer. Ask the baristas what goes best with the bake of the day.
Beyond the shop
We make wedding cakes, dessert tables and pastries for corporate events , supply pastries to selected specialty cafés in Kraków, and take online orders for pickup. For delivery, you can order from us on Wolt, Glovo, Pyszne.pl, Uber Eats and Bolt Food.
